Dr Georgina Gnan

Mental Health Research Consultant

About me

Hi, I’m Georgie, and I’m a mixed methods researcher and consultant who loves turning data into meaningful change. With a PhD in Psychology from King’s College London, I’ve spent my career exploring how to improve mental health and tackle health inequalities, often working alongside the very communities most affected.

My projects have ranged from developing new HIV support programmes in Uganda and the UK to using creative, participatory methods with marginalised groups. I have led studies in the UK and internationally across the NHS, universities, NGOs, and community organisations. My expertise includes pilot and feasibility trials, intervention development, and evaluation using trauma-informed and equity-driven approaches. I have extensive experience working with marginalised communities, including LGBT+ populations, racially minoritised communities and people living with HIV.

After holding two postdoctoral positions, I transitioned into consulting and scientific entrepreneurship. I recently co-founded Youmi, a start-up that develops AI-powered tools to support informal carers. My work bridges science and real-world application, translating evidence into interventions that improve health outcomes and well-being. I’m passionate about using research skills to design innovative, practical solutions that address complex social and health challenges.

Turning research into real-world solutions for better health and equity.
