Research & Science Communication Consultant

Hi! I’m Kathryn - a scientist and science communicator who builds evidence-led stories and research programmes that centre lived experience experts. I specialise in translating complex findings into clear, impactful narratives for academics, policymakers, educators and young people. I have a PhD in Psychology from University College London (UCL) and have spent nearly a decade investigating how young people’s experience of the world shapes cognition, mental health and brain development. My research is methodologically focused to tackle important societal issues: from longitudinal modelling of large-scale datasets to interviews and focus groups.
My journey into science communication began during my PhD when I realised that vital research about mental health and development was only available to other academics. I started writing evidence-based articles for public audiences and became committed to making science accessible and grounded in lived experience. I am currently a Research Fellow and Co-Investigator exploring links between socioeconomic marginalisation and youth loneliness, and founder of The Science or Fiction Podcast, a youth-led platform where we interview experts to separate the science from the fiction in media coverage of research.
I now offer bespoke consultancy with inclusive science at the heart of my work including research design; co-production with lived-experience experts; narrative design and scriptwriting; high-quality audio-visual production and same-day editing; dissemination strategies that make evidence actionable. Clients work with me when they need evidence-based outputs that are accessible, actionable and ethically communicated.
